Heart rate monitor compatible with Samsung phone / Strava?

Hi all,

I seem to be hitting a brick wall with research on this matter.

I have a Samsung galaxy S5, but will have an S7 edge soon.

I use Strava to track all my running and want to step things up and use strava premium, accompanied by said heart rate monitor....

Now... lots of reading and googling has not helped me. Apparently I need an 'ANT+' device - whatever that means?

Would something like this do the job?

Or this?

I know strava recommend some brand but finding one seems a PITA.

I'd really appreciate any help on the matter!

Cheers,
Tom

As a general rule many garmin monitors will only work with garmin devices.

Ant+ may work with the Samsung but I'm not aware of many phones that can talk directly to them without an adapter.

For current and future smartphone compatibility I'd go with a Bluetooth 4 monitor. I have a Wahoo BlueHR which I use with my iPhone 5 and 6S and my wife has also borrowed it and connected it to her Galaxy S5 to use with Strava.

The new Wahoo model is called the TICKR if I recall correctly. You can still get both models from online stores, or for significantly less on eBay.

    Thanks very much Vacheron!

Yes, that's the one Strava recommened, Wahoo / TICKR, just I was unaware how 'good' these are as a brand.

    Off to ebay I go..

    Cheers.

    Glad I could help.

I have 3 Wahoo devices. A Blue SC speed and cadence sensor on the bike, the BlueHR heart monitor on me and a RFLKT+ display on the handlebars. All 3 talk to the phone safely in my pocket via Bluetooth.

I've done hundreds of miles and hours with all of them and never had any problems. :)
