Can't send emails

I wasn't sure where to post this as it's a question about email but am trying here if that's ok. I have been unable to send any emails since the beginning of December last year, it keeps coming up with a message saying an unknown error has occurred. My email address is a Tiscali one and I didn't have any problems until last October when I moved and at first I had the same problems - couldn't send emails but after a while it was ok. However when I went to email a friend in December last year the problem started again and I haven't been able to resolve it. This is my only email address and I only use it on my computer, I don't send many emails but when I want to I'm unable to which is very annoying. Any suggestions what could be wrong? Many thanks.

The email belongs to Talk Talk and you may have lost the access as a non TT customer .It may well have worked for a short while until the box was shut.Time to get yourself an email services that is not tied to an ISP something like GMail .0

I still receive emails. Would I have to change my email address if I changed to Gmail? (sorry, no idea how these things work!)0 -

Yes your email address is loaned to you by Tiscali/ TT and can be shut down at any time .0 -
get a proper gmail account, once you start using google docs as well , you will never need to pay for a office license again0

What you can do in gmail, is set it up to collect email from your old isp, this would mean you have one place to access emails coming to both addresses
to do this open gmail account in browser, click on cog in top right and select settings
then 'accounts and import'
then 'Check email from other accounts (using POP3): Add a POP3 mail account that you own'
It is worth updating the email addressed stored on websites and that friends\family use, to reflect your gmail address, as your old email may stop working in the future0
