Carrying on with the savings/investment discussion. I used to be really anti pensions. OH final salary pension of 20 years was dipped into by his employers trying to keep their company afloat before they went into receivership. He ended up with nothing after 20 years service - this loophole has now been closed and a company could not get away with it today. We were so apprehensive of pensions that oh would not join LGPS scheme which are excellent - we were just so frightened of getting our money stolen again. Eventually joined and realised what a bad mistake we made by not joining earlier.
Another reason I am in favour of pensions now is since the pension reforms in the last budget you can access your money earlier and use drawdown and dont have to buy an annuity which could die with you. Your contributions are topped up by 20pc by the gov if you take out a SIPP (private pension) and even if you dont earn anything you can pay in about 2600 and get it topped up by the tax relief. If you have paid off your mortgage and kids off your hands to me it is a no brainer. Might as well use some of your savings to go in it. I never thought I would say this but oh has done it and I am seriously considering it but I have already taken an annuity some I am not sure on the rules. Can anyone else help with this. Sorry about the long story.0 -

I wish I had gone to Wrexham:rotfl: - as I might then have known whether there's an M Welsh Supporter's Hat now at 75p or not. Unfortunately, I've had to stay within England, so I only know that, as of Wednesday, there was an England Supporter's Hat showing that price in some M stores in England. And I doubt I'll ever see the Welsh store very soon - looks like I'm going off in another direction again next week.
No there s a Hope as well Savvy lol. I never saw any English or Welsh supporters hats when I was there yesterday0 -

I am a big believer in pensions matty.......particularly when your employer us making a good contribution.
My view is " don't put all your eggs in one basket". Pensions, savings, investments, shares, property....go for a balanced portfolio and you will weather all storms:)To do is to be. Rousseau

I really do not need any body mist. Don't really need any perfume as have plenty. Could buy DS2 some of his aftershave for Xmas but as yet don't know what else he might ask for. My kids only get one well thought out gift these days same for grandchildren so one I have 'The List' I can probably do Xmas in an hour online.
Dgd has been an absolute angel today. She did Shred and the London aquarium with mummy before meeting me and we had to run for train. Little ray of sunshine and bath and bed as good as gold.
Tomorrow all planned out. Think she might be tucking grandma in tomorrow night.
N such a shame did not know about lion king open air screening at zoo tomorrow or we could have all gone. They have Jurassic park planned soon as well.
