I am now waiting for the boss of the building firm to arrive....it seems the conservatory roof will cost £1500 to replace....ouch!

Then again in my defence they were made very clear that the roof needed protecting...they chose to ignore and as its only 2 years old it cant be deemed as old

I've been at the house all morning. Firstly rep from storage company was supposed to come st 8.30 so I got up at 7 had breakfast and went to the house at 8. Then at 8.25 the office called to say chap wouldn't be there till 9.30 as they hadn't told him about the spot. I shouted at the girl as I could have had a lie in. It's my only day without work this week.
Anyway he arrived at 9.30 same time as the damp man . Damp man says they are going to have to test for asbestos cause the house is a 1930's council house which may mean all new floors downstairs . He said 2ndbedroom is damp and so that room will be included carpets and all. They have taken up some of the carpets but need the contents gone to complete that
Then laundry man came and took all my clothes. I left the damp chap tearing up carpets and he also threw out my bed and a cupboard in my room that is damp. Waiting on a skip
They are going to deal with emptying the loft
Holiday let confirmed from 10.4 - 3.7 but damp man says he can't see me back there before 6 months .
But on the plus side a virtually new house !!

Mhoc loved the pics sounds like a lovely day and she looked fab but as is usual with children you can't have a quiet time for too long! Hope your son gets sorted

with the experience you had I was inwardly dreading coming back home yesterday incase I was coming back to a scene of devastion.
We had a flat leak roof in August caused mainly by next doors builder pushing the roof guttering apart, this caused a damp patch in the dining room and it also shorted out the electric so we lost the freezer contents :(
Our dining room and kitchen need replastering and re painting anyway so for now the damp patch remains until we can trap our tame builder - not an insurance job really

OMG -what is wrong with builders that they can just ignore ajoining properties ...

Eldest son and his Gf have been house hunting in your neck of the woods. GF got the job she applied for, a big international software company based in Cambridge so they have been looking for places to live that are half way between her work and eldest sons base.

I cant say much or I will jinx things but yesterdays viewings went well. If things go to plan it might be sooner rather than later.

So if your empty nest gets a bit empty and echoey you can always drop food parcels on their doorstep as I think they will only be about 25 mins from you :D

They are looking at unfurnished places so they are thinking of usin places like Heart Foundation furniture warehouses for things like dining table and chairs, sofas etc

I wish them the best of luck finding a suitable home mhoc. The Heart Foundation warehouse is apparently like a treasure trove so I'm certain they'll find what they want/need.

Food parcels, hmmm. I'm already donating to one  just until he gets everything sorted and up and running. Anything remaining and if passing will be considered :rotfl: :rotfl:

Exactly - photos and then some therapeutic digging in the garden, the sunshine finally seems to be getting through.

Yes, the wedding was all planned within an inch of its life. I think most of my panics stemmed from total and utter ignorance, wedding planning is a total black art and about 90% of the time we had no idea what was happening or what needed to happen. Eldest child though is a demon organiser.

And yes I imagine Errant son might be back home for the foreseeable future - 3 years of college, 2 years of uni for what might be nothing ...

You'll be find with him there. You'll soon get used to him, and he you. You love him really :) xx

It will be a case of having to.

Very gradually I've been transforming the house back to being just ours again - over the last 7 months. Having a "cuckoo" in the nest again is going to be a test of my patience and tolerance.

For instance yesterday afternoon he was systematically routing through cupboards and drawers looking for something, I was sorting washing and ignoring it. OH asked him and it turned out he needed some sort of screwdriver to mend his watch strap. OH had him sorted out in no time - it would have taken even less time if he had just said to his dad "I've got a problem with the watch strap, is there something I can mend it with?"

Meal times are going to be problematic again as Errant son has a vast appetite. We have cut down the shopping drastically now to stop wastage, just shop and cook for 2 of us now.

    deep sigh

These 'men' like to try for themselves. Not always successful I'm afraid :rotfl: :rotfl:

Ouch indeed! Just noticed this before I dash back outside. I'm only hoping they don't argue the toss saying that you never told them it will need protecting. Ruddy builders, a world of their own some of them xx

Sorry rose but I have visions of a deleted scene from 50 Shades of Grey:eek::D

This really made me laugh. I haven't read or seen fifty shades though but I get your gist !! However I am feeling relieved it's moving along now.
Busy few weeks for me as catering for the marathon for my sis next month and our part has gotten so much bigger we will now have nearly 80 staff instead of about 25 and I'm in charge of getting everyone's details and a photo as we all have to have photo passes. Still I can do it in my hotel as I have my laptop and printer there . Then in may got 8 days work at Robbie Williams house where we are catering for rehearsals. Extra money should help with the cost of the bathroom
