homelessness is probably quite a big problem in many cities across the country...it certainly is in our major town...although what is different about this case is perhaps that we dont live in the city...we are some distance out and almost semi rural so it's very unusual to find anyone in the area in this situation.
I cant help but think that she may have based herself away from the city for whatever reason and in choosing an area that is close to authority offices perhaps she is trying to be noticed.
Either way living in a bus shelter for a week or more cant be comfortable or presumably being done through choice...people seem to be just ignoring her..the bus passengers politely stand outside the shelter and dont seem to interact with her...maybe I need to be brave, bite the bullet and at least go and chat to her with a cup of coffee or some stew in hand...
Ive no real experience in any of this and dont have a clue whats doing good or whether its just meddling...
There used to be itinerant tramps who used to wander from village to village according to the seasons, mainly looking for work but they don't seem to exist any more.
We have once had a chap sleeping for the odd night in the bus shelter, about 10 mins from us - again we are semi rural so how they managed to get here was a mystery. We have 2 PTSos walking around the village plus 2 churches with vicars and the pub is opposite so its quite shocking that no one picked up the phone and let someone know.“Create all the happiness you are able to create; remove all the misery you are able to remove. Every day will allow you, --will invite you to add something to the pleasure of others, --or to diminish something of their pains.”0 -
You know that you can get the slightly bigger u&g, its in the milk aisle in my T's. The smaller u&g are in the cereal aisle and didnt have anytoday, so I got 10 bigger ones for £1 each so 79p overage for each one but they dont compare to anywhere else. hth
drat - I forgot this and we were in the milk and yogurt section ...“Create all the happiness you are able to create; remove all the misery you are able to remove. Every day will allow you, --will invite you to add something to the pleasure of others, --or to diminish something of their pains.”0 -

Not bad for £2.10.
That was me! Glad that I have been able to help someone save some money. I will be stocking up when I next go in there.0 -

The No Second Night Out initiative was launched in 2012 and says that while there may be many reasons someone sleeps rough for a night - there is no reason for them to spend a second night out.
Hundreds of rough sleepers have already been helped from people contacting the service, with 160 calls received in the first six months of this year.
But as the nights grow longer and temperatures drop, the council are urging even more people to call 03001232041 if they see someone sleeping on the streets.

I think this is London based as St Mungo s is.
This is another issue. Eldest child works in London so she sees the homeless on a regular basis, its just one of those things associated with cities and you become compassion weary.
Sadly there are so many its impossible to help everyone.
For us out in the sticks though even seeing one person huddled down in a doorway for the night is shocking“Create all the happiness you are able to create; remove all the misery you are able to remove. Every day will allow you, --will invite you to add something to the pleasure of others, --or to diminish something of their pains.”0 -
Afternoon luvlies
Back from a lovely day - went on our blanket trip. Kept my MSE head on and didn't sign up to anything. DH bought us a neck cushion each in lambswool which they were selling off as it's the end of their summer stock €15 each, lovely and soft and ideal for travelling. Had a fabulous lunch afterwards up in the caves, as much to eat and drink as we wanted for €6 then we were able to walk around the cave houses and meet some lovely people who showed us inside their homes. Would never have visited this place had it not been for the blanket trip, so just wanted to thank those who recommended we go on it :A, had such a great day :T
I've been reading it's looking like our nectar points have started to come through now. Well I've got the nectar app on my phone with me and it's showing I have 10k extra points, I don't have my nectar card with me so can't check the breakdown of how they've calculated that. I've dropped a note to DD2 to ask her to take a screen shot of my nectar card which I left at home so I can log into my account online :rotfl:
Edit: Remembered my Nectar app needs updating and under what's new apparently your Nectar no now shows in your wallet. Off to have a look
When I was placing all my orders I parked the email confirmations in a folder on my phone and just counted up I placed 36 orders in total. That was across 3 retailers - TB, LF and Asos, and they were placed over 4 days. Even if I was only awarded the basic 250 points for each transaction (9k points), I'm happy with that.
We fly home late Monday evening, am I right in thinking the last day for double up is next Tuesday? Thanks :happylove Nanny to 2 Cherubs :happylove0 -
I had a neighbour that had obvious dementure so I rang social services to see what care she had.
It turned out she wasn't even registered with a doctor, the phone and gas had been cut off and social services didn't even know of her.
I was about ten doors away and worked full time so I couldn't get my head around why nobody else had enquired.
She got the full care package, the house cleaned up and hot food delivered, then when the time came she went into a home.
A couple of years later she passed and a procession of visitors came looking for the house to see what they could claim- two sweet looking old ladies even knocked on my door to see if anyone had a key !!!!
This is one of the problems, if someone has no close relatives or their relatives live a long distance away they can very easily slip through the net and not be in the system.“Create all the happiness you are able to create; remove all the misery you are able to remove. Every day will allow you, --will invite you to add something to the pleasure of others, --or to diminish something of their pains.”0 -
