But can you legally own a dead body! or a part of a dead body!!!

    :D:D:D:D

It is an animal though (or former animal, or the carcass of an animal) and animals can belong to human beings. They are also property that is capable of being "damaged" within the Criminal Damage Act 1971.

You asked:o:o. I didn't answer your question about dead human beings. Interesting (if morbid) area for me now to research:rotfl:. Not that I will do so. Does the dead body belong to the undertaker at some point at which it is put into the coffin? Or is it not "owned" by anyone? Do we all become "property", of our loved ones, once we pass away? Clearly, if so, we are not property to be disposed of as seen fit as there are rules about disposing of dead bodies and concealing deaths etc. We are however, whether or not a dead body is an object capable of ownership (and animals, whether alive or dead, clearly can be), emotionally "owned" by our loved ones as they are affected by our tragic loss. And of course some people die without known relatives or carers and have a funeral arranged by the local authority. Does the Council though own the body at that stage? If they don't, how do they have the right to remove or deal with the 'object' (the dead body) or is that covered by separate statute that gives them the right?

You raise interesting points that I have not considered before. Thanks very much for that (:rotfl:, given the morbid nature of the topic).

Clearly I think, if it was owned, that would then imply that it could be sold for money. Which you might think brings this within my struggle to make this a money-saving related post:rotfl:. However, none of us would ever dream of trading a dead body. Doing so would be gravely offensive to some or many as well I suspect. But even though the fact is that, even if owned (and I don't know that they are), no-one ever does sell a dead body (unless of course it's the dead body of a chicken or a duck or meat from a cow or pig and then we do it all the time as part of the standards of this society and such is seen as normal within it) does that not mean that, in theory, we could do so even if no-one in our society, not to my knowledge anyway, actually does trade in dead human bodies or meat because of the social taboo against doing so in our society? Or does the undertaker actually "trade" in it because of course he or she does receive the body and in the course of a payment in order to properly dispose of it with dignity and in a proper way in a funeral to pay respect to our dearly departed? Seeing undertakers as people that "trade in dead bodies" however would be a step too far, even if I suppose it is true. Then again, our supermarkets are traders in dead bodies all the time, even if we wouldn't think of it that way or apply that description to them, because part of their trade extends to trade in dead chicken meat and the like. There is no implication of course that that is wrong or bad - indeed it's done as an unquestioned accepted thing in our society, and I myself quite like chicken meat. There are of course people that are vegetarian/vegan etc. In my struggles:rotfl:, it's simply for us to identify or post about deals that get us either vegetarian or chicken meat products at good prices and Bubbs is very helpfully doing that.

We don't see the chicken as a dead body, even though it is. We see it as a chicken.

It's like - let's move to another sensitive area of social taboo:rotfl: - the swastika symbol. Now, that is just a symbol, a printing of ink or points of light on a screen, and someone could say they like the shape of a letter of the alphabet or a symbol. However, that does not take away what that symbol represents, about the Holocaust and the horrific suppression and abuse, and all the bad and horrible associations of that thing with discrimination, anti-Semitism and persecution of human beings that took place by the repressive and horrific regime that carried all that out. So, we don't see the swastika as a graceful printing of ink - we see it, rightly, as a symbol of nastiness and abuse.

    Afternoon peeps. :)

Just got back from A's to look for the cheap toilet roll, didn't find any as it's only a small one. :(

On the way out, I remembered I had to get some tobacco. As I was paying the CS said 'anything else?' Normally I don't buy said I'll have a £2 scratch card. Scratched it on the bus home and I won £200. :D

Having a take away tonight. :)

    Well done scamps :T:T:T
