State + meagre private penson

Hi all,
My father who is now 78 but still working 4 days a week needs to (and probably wants to!) start thinking about retiring in the near term.
Unfortunately he does not own a property and currently rents in the private sector (in London).
His state pension which he opted not to defer at approx £120, plus his £120pw private pension, would not be enough to cover London rent, especially in his current property.
Checking entitledto.com, it would appear that he could be eligible for a further £142.80pw in Housing Benefit. If true, it does improve the outlook slightly, but I'm wondering if this sounds about right and if there's any alternative forms of housing he could look into etc?
Many thanks,
Z

How much is his rent?0

Is there any chance of almshouse/ sheltered housing type accommodation?0

I agree, I would ask the council/CAB/age concern about his housing choices. Surely someone of that age, on that amount of money would be considered?
Where do you live? Could he move near you (for less)?0 -

I know it's a big move but I agree with the previous poster about moving out of London. It's a very expensive place to live. Even if he got the full amount of £142.80 per week in HB he's still going to be short of money each week.
His total income would be around £380 per week.
£340 per week is 3 times what I pay in rent in the Midlands and I can assure you I have much more than £40 left over each week.:footie:
Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.
