Coconut Oil!
i have recently started to get into all this healthy eating stuff and lots of the recipes I am making use coconut oil (I know there are mixed views on how healthy this actually is but it makes cakes taste good!) The problem is it costs a fortune for a small jar...any tips on where to get it cheap?

Last week B&M had 500ml jars for £1.49 and organic ones a bit more expensive (sorry, didn't get price of those)0

For proper coconut oil, unrefined, the cheapest might be Holland and Barrett. It might still be offer on the moment. It is a big jar too and it tastes yummy. The stuff B&M sells is great for frying as it is tasteless.0

H&B often have 'buy one, get one half price' offers on coconut oil.0

As said above, Holland and Barrett usually have some good half-price offers on coconut oil!0

The stuff in B&M will be refined so has none of the health benefits of cold pressed organic coconut oil.
You can often buy it online cheaper than in the supermarket, especially if you buy in bulk.0 -
I get mine in Tesco in the World Foods section. KTC 100% pure coconut oil £1.50.0

H&B sells various coconut oil and the one I was thinking of is raw and cold pressed.
They also offer extra raw virgin coconut oil.

I get mine from Aldi. Can't remember the price (about half the price of Tesco's) but it is organic and cold pressed. Much much much cheaper than H&B. I can't believe people on a money saving forum are saying to go there!!0

I can't believe people of a money saving forum are swayed by marketing terminology like "raw", "cold-pressed", "virgin" and "extra-virgin".
An "extra" before the virgin means absolutely nothing in terms of coconut oil.
From what I can gather it's unlikely that pure refined coconut oil has any fewer of the supposed health benefits than any other type. One of the reasons it's supposed to be healthy is because it contains very stable fats and therefore refining processes do little to change the actual composition.
Probably the best reason for choosing between refined and non-refined is whether you want the coconut flavour, and that would depend on what you were cooking.0 -

Mind you this stuff sets like concrete in the UK winter,

Would need to be divided in our summer.
