O/S Daily Wednesday 15 June 2016

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning everyone

Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x

Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them x

Now light, very cloudy and overcast, looks like it’s going to rain, loads of laying water.

DH up and gone to work stupid early. DS1 now getting ready for work. DS2 still in his pit as he’s on study leave and doesn’t have to go into school until later.

Dinner last night was fish, chips/jacket potato, beans/veg, I forgot to get the meat out to defrost, so I’ve decided to make a pasta dish, I have the an open tub of cream in the fridge from making the cheesecake, so I’m thinking making a creamy sauce with mushrooms and peppers in it and I’ll serve that with chicken portions (I’ve found some that is cook from frozen, which is really handy when you forget to get something for dinner out of the freezer!)

Work was steady yesterday – will have to wait and see how it goes today, luckily we did have systems. Working all day again today as doing the extra hours this afternoon. Looking forward to my days’ off this week, although have loads to do as always. The morale at work is very low at the moment as today is our colleague’s funeral who collapsed and died 2 weeks ago, there will be a big presence from work, everyone is still in shock and disbelief, hoping today gives some peace to those that need it.
I did manage to get a few jobs done last night, several on the pc, the ticket arrived yesterday for DS2 for the open top bus that we’re going on whilst on holidays, I already have our tickets sorted as I need to collect them from the main office once we arrive.

Keep safe and well x

Morning everyone. Thanks for the thread nmlc.

Looks damp outside so must have had overnight rain though the sky has blue bits peeking through.

Yesterday I got two loads of washing out and dried as it was blowy and sunny. I spent some time wandering around my garden looking at all the plants which have begun to flower, such a pleasure to see the new borage with its extraordinary blue spikes, the lavender with its tiny new blooms and the nepeta's purple heads.

My trip to the hospital with the local woman was fairly quick and uneventful. I sat outside in the sunshine reading as I waited.

It was a day of deliveries here. First my fab new vacuum arrived, then a new handheld steam cleaner and finally the moth traps I had ordered last week. Makes a change from books! Vacuum immediately pressed into service, I never ever ever thought I'd like vacuuming but this was so easy and effortless. Moth trap is in a corner of the living room whilst steam cleaner is still in the box. Maybe today I'll try it out.

The place I used to work for has made a huge and unpopular business decision - it's weird to see all those who use their quals to make pots of money kick off and 'plan an attack' whilst I sit outside of it and not getting het up or embroiled.

Right, another half hour under the duvet I think.

I hope everyone has a good Wednesday.

It's sunny here today, not sure how long for though.
The fish have been fed, hub and I have a cuppa, I'm trying to throw myself at work with some enthusiasm and failing badly, lol.
I need to do the cupboard under the stairs tonight, I didn't manage it yesterday, my son MOT'd my car and then I took stuff to people, must try harder.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

Good morning all. Yesterday started out dryish but later turned to bucketing rain. It has rained through much of the night and is still persisting down, really quite heavy. At least it will clean up the flagstones, am struggling to find any other positive aspect. But I'm having a day off and don't have to go out in it.

A couple of days ago I noticed that one load of washing had a musty smell and re-washing did not help. Bought some washing machine cleaner as this happened once before and a normal 'service wash ' achieved very little. I think it has done the trick. Hope so anyway.

Judi, I hope things start to improve for you. nmlc, hope your colleague's funeral is not too awful.

I must get on with some neglected jobs, hope everyone has as good a day as possible (and that if you have rain, it will not be torrents)

Gloomy outside, it has rained most of the night. Washing dried yesterday, not enough for a load today. Went for a walk via the glass bank this morning, will take the rest this evening or tomorrow morning.

Met up with friends after work and had a lovely chicken and bacon salad, I've eaten very sensibly for 2 days now, surely I'm a size 8?!

A friend is clearing her late mother's house and brought me over a steam cleaner - Gers, bet yours gets used before mine!

Hope you are ok hilstep, it's good to hear from you. LW - Did you have a good holiday? Hope you're feeling better judi.
Speky - Where was the wedding?

Wednesday already, have a good day. Take care. XX

    Morning all,

Thanks for the thread nmlc X. Hope work isn't too horrendous and the funeral goes smoothly for your colleagues family.

I am off the knitting group today. Last week I managed to attach hussar style hats to my 12 drummers drumming in record time. Think it was because I was knitting instead of knattering unlike others in the group! Today I will attempt to attach some crocheted hair plus carry on knitting the drums - Two down, ten to go.

There is some ironing to do but DD will be doing it after school for extra money - she borrowed some from DS2 and needs to pay him back. Needs must and a life lesson there I think.

Planted up some lovely lemon patio roses in our blue pots on the front step yesterday. Even got a discount as DS1 works in the cafe at the garden centre. They look really nice so we have kerb appeal once again.

    Have a good day all

    Morning everyone,

Dull and overcast here but at least it isn't raining :j

We had a relatively quiet day yesterday as Mum was a bit tired and the weather was a bit poo first thing. Did manage to get out later to have a pub lunch and a nice stroll around a very quaint village. Found some beautiful SH crystal champagne flutes, 6 for £20 which is a darn sight cheaper than the new ones have seen and they are gorgeous :) Went for an evening stroll with my OH later and it was breezy but sunny so nice to stretch our legs for an hour.
Today, if Mum feels up to it we are to Bath to look around the baths, its 20 odd years since have been so very much looking forward to going.
Hugs to Judi and all that need them x
Have a good day everyone, take care folks x

    Good morning,

nmlc - I hope the funeral service goes ok.
ancient - I've used the washer stuff before and it worked brilliantly. Similarly for our dish washer too actually.
camelot - the wedding was at Duck Bay. It was dry so we had the views over the loch as our background. Was truly lovely.
Lainey - hope you enjoy yourself today and you get the weather for it.

Yesterday for me was a nightmare. My GF got the news that she has 'high grade, first stage, cervical cancer'.

We had no idea. She went for her smear a couple of weeks ago then received a letter on Friday to say there was abnormalities and to come into the the doc. They then straight away told her and as it was 'high grade' they gave her some anesthetic and done some work there and then. We've to wait 3-6 weeks to see if it's spread and how aggressive it is. Absolutely gutted.

I've been lucky enough to not have anyone in my family affected by cancer, so this is all new to me. I think the worst. I picture her losing her hair and being told terrible news of how long she has. Shes only 23.

The brave soul is back to work today, as am I. Hoping it'll distract us both.

    When it rains, it pours.

I am so sorry to hear the news but Thank God she did go for the check so they caught it at the first stage. Thinking of you both and crossing my fingers.

It is a really dull day here and has rained overnight. I have a kitchen floor installed which I like so much I am having the same thing in the hall and in the adjoining conservatory. It is Arlington oak and looks lovely and light and modern.

I now have three builders in the kitchen "discussing" where things can go so am keeping well out of the way.

DD comes to drive me to SW tonight but don't expect to lose weight as a few things like crisps leapt into my mouth :o

    Hugs to all.

    Good morning everyone :hello:

Oh Speky, what shocking news. I will be praying for your girlfriend that the outcome is the best it can be. xxxxx

Lainey, it sounds like you are having a lovely holiday. I haven't been to Bath in years but I remember it as a beautiful place to look around.

Today is my first official visit to the Diabetic clinic at my doctors and I feel very nervous. I think I've met the nurse before and as I recall she was very lovely but I still feel sick and worried. Never mind, I will have to get over myself and just go.

I woke up to a silent house as everyone had left for work/school already. I don't like not seeing the girls in the morning but I was so very tired and slept in.

I haven't a clue what to make for tea tonight, I will go and rummage in the freezer in a minute and see what delights I can find. There is some leftover chilli in the fridge so that will be my lunch I guess.

Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx
