How to clean tarnished stainless steel cutlery?

I've got some old (but nice!) stainless steel cutlery which is quite tarnished. Is there anything I can use (not some expensive chemical) to get rid of it?
TIA :)

Place a fresh piece of aluminium foil in a deep rectangular dish. Add undiluted vinegar to the dish, and soak the stainless steel cutlery for 10 minutes. Once complete, remove and wipe it down with a cotton tea towel. Rinse under hot water to remove excess vinegar and dry every piece completely to avoid water spots.

If that doesn't work, get some aluminium foil, dip it in brine and polish the cutlery with it.

There is another way. Place a sheet of aluminium foil in the bottom of your washing up bowl. Add a generous amount of soda crystals , place the cutlery in and then add boiling water. When the water stops fizzing, take the cutlery out, rinse it and buff it up. Voila!
