I wouldn't bank on a state pension at 66 I am 54 almost 55 and mine is not until I am over 67. As others have said you have time on your side and if you get the money performing it will grow into a worthwhile amount. Good luck...

    Agreed.

I am 47, and I think my SPA will be 68. Pretty similar to the OP.

However I view any SP I will receive as a bonus; I do not rate it as part of my retirement planning.
I'm pretty sure that there will be an element of means-testing by that time, and also that there will be a further review of the SPA itself. Upwards.

Frankly, both are points on which I have little control (other than depleting my assets to the point at which the state should take care of me, but that's frankly rather extreme!)

20 odd years between now and SPA for you and I is sufficient time horizon to really shape our retirement planning (but also sufficient time to allow for all manner of external threats to come in to play - economic, tax, environment, political)

Reading the thread title, I genuinely thought it was Neil Kinnock.

As commented above, regarding state pension age, I will receive this at age 67. Unless it all becomes means tested and all my hard saved pension(s) replaces it rather than enhances it.
