Split Yellow Peas.

I want to make a Daal (Dal..dahl??) with Yellow split peas.

On the pack it says to simmer for 35-40 mins before using.

As i will be simmering the Daal anyway, does this mean i can skip the initial 35-40mins and just make the Daal as normal?

i wouldnt , personally, as they absorb a huge amount of water (thats what gives them the mushy texture) and I would think that cooking them in the dhal from scratch might make then quite hard or need longer cooking time
I tend to give them a quick boil for around 10/15 mins then add them into the dhal base

    Thanks natbags.

I gave then a 20 min simmer and then added them to the base, so hopefully they will be soft by the time it's ready.

They'll simmer for another 30 mins anyway, so fingers crossed!
