Definition of a first time buyer

Hello, can someone please help:
When I was a student in 2014, my husband bought a flat with only his name on all the transactions. I am now in a position to buy a flat under my name and have not previously owned a property, I thought this counts as a first time buyer? However my husband was told by his mortgage broker at the time that I wouldn't be eligible. We are confused :/
Does having a husband with a property disqualify me from being a first time buyer?

    It's a broader question than that.

    What does your position affect in your case? Stamp duty?

    If it is regarding government schemes etc then you will be exempt from them as your husband has an asset that you have beneficial interest in already. At least that's how I understand it.
    Just a single mum, working full time, bit of a nutcase, but mostly sensible, wanting to be Mortgage free by 2035 or less! £196,000/£177560 to go

    I have had a mortgage for 12yrs or so and married my wife 4yrs ago, she is we are now purchasing another property and she is classed as a first time buyer, however as we are purchasing jointly she is not eleigible for any first time buyer benefits
