Candy floss waste sugar help

Hi I have just bought a candy floss machine a large one, I have followed the instructions but there always seems to be a large crust of sugar builds up around the edge of the pan. (I would expect a little but this seems tons).

Has anyone had experience of this and know what i am doing wrong as i must be wasting about 1/2 the sugar.

I think this question is probably in the wrong place- I think you might get a better response on the old style money saving board. Hopefully someone will be able to move it for you.
