Sewing machine manual

http://s33.postimg.org/727au1klr/20160612_122104.jpg

My cousin gave me a sewing machine but I can't work it out, it's a brotherbs bs-2120, I can't find a manual anywhere.
It's only got 2 controls, I can't work out how to switch to a different stitch
Any suggestions?

Hmmm - I wonder if that's one where you have to guide the "functions" manually? You'd set the stitch length to "F" which is tiny, then pick your width according to what you are doing - narrow for buttonholes, wide for satin stitch, & guide your fabric accordingly. You'd use the swing needle (L-M-R) & reverse to do the buttonhole. The manual would probably explain how to do these things, but it'd be you doing the work, not the machine itself!

I'd suggest getting hold of an old sheet or similar & playing around with it. Knowing how these things actually achieve the effects they do is actually very useful - it seems like magic when you see the £3000 embroidery machines chuntering away to themselves at stitching exhibitions, but you can do exactly the same thing with a 60 y.o. Bernina if you know how, and there's much less to go wrong!

I think you must be right, it's a bit of a con having a picture of a letter, a flower and a teddy bear as different functions though.

It'll do me fine, i'm making clothes for my 2 daughters, so only really need straight and zigzag, but it would have been nice to do a few bits of stitching too.

Brother support has been good in the past so have you tried contacting them? Other than that see here https://www.brothermachines.com/sewing/411/Home_Sew_Manuals

At a guess the bs2120 and bs 2125 will be very similar if our model is anything to go by.

Is your tension set wrong? It should be on 3 or 4.
If stitches are ok and not too tight or looping underneath leave it as it is.
