Emergency Fund credit history question

I have decided to set up an emergency fund, for no other reason than when things go wrong they really do go wrong and the plastic gets a hammering for things like broken dishwashers/car parts etc, this is no longer an option.
I've gone for a Natwest E-Savings account but whilst applying noticed a credit check would be run, Seeing as it's an 'internal' account I want to set up ie an account to run paralell (sp?) with my current account are my chances nil ? Given my last two years have been an uphill struggle with a couple of late payments and I a default.
I do have a personal loan and a small OD with them.
Any experiences advice welcome.

I think you will be fine getting an e-savings account. I've got one linked to my step account which I just use for bits and pieces. I've got access to my credit report with equifax and I've just checked and they didn't do a search.
In fact, I've opened 2 or 3 savings accounts recently and none of them did a search on me, so I think you will be fine.

Nationwide do not do a credit check against e-savings accounts and I have to say it is very rare that you hear of a credit check being done for any savings accounts... I think they might do an identity check to make sure there is no fraud against your name, but that should be about it.
I have 3 e-savings accounts against my flex account0 -
Brilliant - thank you. Not that I want any credit just wondered where I stood
