Autoglass crack window

Autoglass came to repair my chipped windscreen but the chip has cracked during the repair and now the whole windshield needs replaced.

I have to pay the excess for this.

any advise on this please?

Did repairman advise you it may crack before starting job?

No I was not advised that the window would crack or that the chip would in any way be worse following the engineers involvement.

its a new car to me so I was keen to ensure he was careful and not score or dent anything with his equipment.

He did say when he was starting (after fixing what looked like a mirror to the inside of the window) that this is the bit I "won't like as he has to make it worse to make it better"

I did not enquire what exactly that meant I just said "on that note I'm away back to work"

At no stage was I made aware that a 2mm chip would turn into a 5cm crack.

the crack is a white crack which apparently is better than a blue one but the engineer did state that he was not happy with it.

the outside of the window still has an indent when you move your finger over it.

Many chips like this will become a crack after a while with flexing and movement leading to windscreen replacement being necessary. Just bad luck - not Autoglass's fault.

It didn't become a crack after I'd been driving with a chip. It became a crack in the 25 minutes the engineer was there to fix it.

Was this arranged with aotoglass direct or did you contact your insurer? Did you sign anything before they started?

Autoglass is the approved repairer though my insurer. I phoned Autoglass, as I didn't know my policy number I had to contact the insurer who put me through to Autoglass again. I did not sign anything either prior to Autoglass touching my vehicle or as they were leaving.

Covered in their terms and conditions, para 3. https://www.autoglass.co.uk/terms-of-business/
