CRA's and Flat Address Variations

Is there a recommended way of approaching address variations with the CRA's?

For the electoral roll, my local council uses the convention, eg 1F4, 10 Quality Street, so the 4th flat on the 2nd floor, building number 10.

The post office use the more commonly seen 10/8 Quality Street, so building number 10 and then the 8th flat in the building, ie. 4 flats on each floor.

Virtually all lenders, and anyone that uses the Post Office database for the address finder that you use whenever entering your address online, use the 2nd convention.

The 2 times I've moved in the last 10 years I seem to have spent hours and hours with the 3 CRAs getting them to update my file to ensure it's correct, even having to get a letter from my local council confirming I was on the electoral roll. Accounts regularly drop off and its a struggle to get them back on and the CRAs have accounts listed as being at a totally different flat.

Then for edibility checkers etc you can't put the address in manually and have to use the Post Office convention. Assuming it's the same for most online applications.

Is there a best practice approach for how to get round this? On the advice of the CRA I've registered made my current account and credit card address using the councils variation and then set up a linked address with the post office variation for accounts that won't let you enter the account manually. Does anyone have any advice on this one?

  • Hey its a never ending game. I have been trying to get virgin media ot change my address and they wont.

I'm listed on voters as Flat 1/2. Royal mail list me as Flat 6 and so do most banks etc. Its a nightmare.

According to all my CRAs i'm no on the voters role and they refuse to budge:|
