No, I wasn't aware of anything like that!

Then going to be extremely difficult to blame the bank entirely for your woes at the time. As your lack of inaction was outside of their remit and control. Also recollections of events after 5 years may not be clear cut as you think. In the heat of the moment I find people tend not to listen properly to what is being said, or even worse totally misconstrue it. Simply taking umbrage.

Lack of inaction? I rang them every day asking for help, that's my gripe, and they didn't follow published procedure or offer me advice or anything, that's what I would complain about.

And what evidence do you have to support your allegations?
What do you want them to do about it?

I don't disbelieve you or are trying to downplay what you went through. However, it was a long time ago and its not an event that is likely carry much or anything in the way of records.

Also, just because they aim to help you, does not mean you will get what you want. If they refuse and you do not accept that refusal and you get upset about it, there is little they can do about it. The bank is not a charity and is not there to supply money.

That said, none of us here know what the bank will do on a complaint like this. Maybe £25 and bunch of flowers.

You can complain about anything you want - you don't need permission.

But whether it's worth complaining, that's a different matter.

It'd be very difficult for them to investigate the circumstances of a complaint from so long ago in any meaningful way.

I'm not sure what you want as an outcome from the complaint - if you want an apology i'm sure they'll give you one - but it would be a fairly empty apology as they won't really know what happened after so long.

If you want compo, they might bung a few quid at you as a gesture - but again, fairly meaningless as they won't be able to fully investigate the complaint

I think you should just let it go, don't let it eat at you after all this time, and move on with your life.

I would complain. I think you need to - if only to get closure for yourself over this nasty frightening episode and for the bank to think about their customer service.

Ive complained about loads of stuff ( professional complainer lol ) but one thing I never complained about was something a bank did after my dad died. I told them he died but they kept on about unpaid direct debits. They apologised and sent £50. Then a couple of weeks later they sent him a letter and medical form to complete as his direct debit for life insurance wasnt paid! I was so upset, my brother initially complained but I didnt follow it up. Even now that situation upsets me and I wish I had formally complained but its 8 years later so too late.

Complain, ask for explanations. Tell them what happened. Then put it behind you what ever the outcome
