Old Debt re-appeared

Hi All,

When I was younger, I ran away from a loan after university (yes I know) but it has re-appeared. I received a letter this morning from a collection agency who have taken over the debt. I stopped paying in July 1999 and I have had no other communication regarding this since then. Am I right in thinking they have left it too long to get any money from me?

I've been working through my debts steadily over the years and they are all coming down but this could bump me back a few years. As much as I'd like to pay it off, it's simply not possible right now.

Any advice?

  • Any debt older than six years is statuate barred. They cannot enforce the debt providing you have not aknowledged the debt wit in these seix years

You can write to them and tell them this.

aplogies for the spelling, just got up...............
  • There is a letter on the debt free board you can use. If you search on statute barred on MSE, it will be in amongst the threads.
