Going back to work full-time, but don't get paid until 19th July

Hi all

I have been working low hours, due to a personal issue (I won't go into it here, but some of you may know what problems I was having, as I did post on another part of the site about it)

I have now asked my employer to up my hours as the issue has been semi-resolved

My problem is my cut off for payment is on Sunday, so on 21st June I will get £112 odd, then I don't get paid until 19th July

I am on JSA currently, but will have to come off when I find out what hours I am doing (hopefully 30+ hours)

That means when I sign off I will have 4 weeks with no income at all, how can I live on nothing (BTW, I do not have credit cards & cannot get a loan as I have a very bad credit history), also I cannot borrow from family

I am really worried about getting by for 4 weeks on hardly any money

Ask the employer for an advance?

It's good to see you posting TT, several of us were wondering how you are. I hope everything is going well for you.

JSA is paid two weeks in advance, so that should help you out. Are you receiving CTC and CB?

Your local authority should have an emergency fund that you can access, which might be a short term loan or food bank vouchers.

Are you still receiving support from social services? They can also access emergency funds.
  • Thanks for you concern tomtontom, I have been busy with a lot of stuff recently

I am fine, although things didn't go our way with SS, but thats another story

I cannot get an advance for employer, I am not receiving CTC & CB as child not in our care

JSA is paid in arrears...not advance.

:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p

Depending on how long you have been on JSA you may get an extended period for HB and CT reduction.

    https://www.gov.uk/moving-from-benefits-to-work/support-when-you-start-working

You may also be eligible for working tax credits.

You could go to CAB for a benefits check up.

If you are not eligible for the automatic 'run on' of HB and CT reduction then you can still claim HB and CT reduction based on a low income. Once you come off JSA speak to the council about continuing you claim based on a low income.

Plus you will still have two weeks of JSA.

During this time contact all of your creditors - utilities, telephone etc etc and explain the situation and ask for a month's grace to pay your bills.

Cancel any direct debits so that you do not get any bank interest charges and then reinstate them once you get paid.

Creditors are usually happy to help as long as you let them know what is happening

During this month you really only need to budget for food and travel costs. Everything else can be put on hold for a month.

Truly sorry to hear that. Take care of yourselves x

Yes, I agree, didn't read before submitting! JSA in arrears will help the OP to budget for the gap.
  • Thanks all

I have only been on JSA for 2 weeks, but was on Income Support before that

Nice to see you again but sorry to hear things didn't work out.

Can I asks this job a perm full time job and not zero hours.

When I started my job they paid me on normal pay day as they gave me emergency fund then they took it off my pay the next month as it would have been on system.

Ask if your employer could do this
    Mortgage free wannabe

    Actual mortgage stating amount £75,150

Overpayment paused to pay off cc

    Starting balance £66,565.45

    Current balance £58,108

    Cc around 8k.

  • It is the same job I have had for the last 20 months (KFC, 4 hour contract), but I dropped my hours after my daughter was born, now I have asked to up them again
