And seriously - disingenuous or what? You didn't think that it might also have something to do with the fact that you have actually had 5.5 days off in total (more than any of your colleagues, and your manager isn't happy with your performance? Or that you complain about having done the washing up? Really - you don't think these things are relevant?

I said it on your last thread. I am going to say it again now. You seem to have a rather odd and unrealistic approach to working life which involves expectations that it revolves around you. It doesn't. And if you want to get much past your eight months employment with this company, you need to change your attitude about what you can expect at work.

There is a lot more to it that I posted on the forum really. Despite one of my colleagues having slightly less time off than myself, also being brought up on the same points as I did in my meeting and also being brought up on the fact that hes late every single day by 3-5 minutes, despite all that he got a pay rise and I did not. I used this in my argument with my boss and my line manager has had a chat with the boss about it and my boss believes she was overly harsh and has apologized to myself. all is cool at work now and I'm a lot happier, it seems there were some misunderstandings.

    I've been Money Tipped!
You really need to remember that you are employed to do a job - if you're not there the work will go undone or others will have to pick up extra tasks.

The company does not exist purely to provide you with employment - stop feeling 'disappointed' and get back to work.

I think you'll find your employer is just as disappointed with you given the issues arising since you've joined them.

PS... I don't normally comment on grammar but as I'm here already I might as well mention the incorrect use of 'of' instead of 'have'.

Harsh may of been the wrong word, disappointing is what i was looking for really.

    'May have' not 'may of'.

I would rather of them just say, you must take it as holiday or unpaid leave in the first instance, that I would of been completely fine with.

Whilst you're off recovering from your elective surgery you could spend some time freshening up on your grammar.

Do you mean to say that you went to the boss over the head of your line manager about getting a pay rise, and he overruled her? If that is the case, then prepare to be disappointed. It isn't common for managers to like this sort of thing, and it tends to put you in the cross hairs. If you aren't in them already.

The understanding I had was that if a doctor was saying you were unfit for work then the sickness would be paid - if this is your company policy e.g my partner gets no sick pay so would be out of Luck. I had elective eye surgery and had to have one week off and was advised that for the first week I could self certify. Anything else after this I would require a doctors note. As per company policy.

My manager when I first advised him I was going to be off was a little put out. I did however wish to give him a as much notice as possible - as it was corrective from a previous surgery where it has not worked (annoyingly the previous time I booked a week of annual leave at a different workplace and only NEEDED one day) this time I was ROUGH afterwards. I did a bit of googling and the reading stated if you're unfit for work you're unfit for work and called human resources to check this out. Human resources didn't even bat an eyelid and said yep - if you're unfit you're unfit. Company policy. Since that point a woman has had breast augmentation and used my elective eye surgery to get her 6 weeks paid. Because the boss tried to kick up a stink. Haha

In the context of this thread you are totally out of order making comments of that nature. It is an online forum not an academic assignment. The fact that you understand what they mean in their post shows that the communication was successful so that is all that matters in this context.

One of the things I hate with this forum is the casual nature of belittling for such trivial things. It is basically bullying would you do it real life? Probably not I bet.

Umm me no agree wit wot you say.

Forums like this are used for the purpose of seeking and providing advice. The context is two-way communication and comments on grammar are reasonable even if to some they appear petty. The 'would of' error is persistent. Those who use it incorrectly will continue to use it in blissful ignorance unless advised otherwise.

A good standard of English is important in many jobs. I don't feel there was intent to belittle and it certainly is not bullying to offer helpful advice.

The 'grammar police' excuse is often invoked in the defence of poor literacy. We shouldn't be shy about helping others to understand that errors in grammar will affect the view others have of you.

In the context of your reply - you're talking rubbish. They only understood what it meant because there are so many people with the same fault.

Complete and utter bull...t. You are probably one of those people who has go at people with regional dialects. Where I come from the spoken form of 'May have' sounds 'Mayof' Now I would never send a formal correspondence using 'May of' but I would use it in informal settings like texts or informal internet settings like this forum. Just because people use it does not mean they do not know the difference.

I stand by the fact that this is an online informal communication if it wasn't I would not be currently replying to a character called eschaton? etc. I would be replying to Dave or Emma and so on with proper contact arrangements and traceability.

In the real world most people have different ways of communicating in the varying settings and contexts of life. I.e. how you communicate with your best mate will be different to how you communicate with a work colleague, which will be different to how you communicate to a stranger. This is the same for both written and spoken English etc. Throw in the fact that people are probably (like me now) typing on a 3 or 4 inch mobile screen where your fingers cover about 2 or 3 letters on a touch pad etc. then I think it is perfectly acceptable to allow regionalisms and short cuts in written English.

In the context of the OP posts there was no need to pick up on the grammar. It was petty and the beauty of language and communication is that as long as the message is understood the point has been made. That fact the other poster took time to comment proves that the communication was successful.
