Cheques - My bank details, my Dad's name

Hello all. sorry if this is in the wrong place, but I'm not sure where else it is most suitable for.
Anyway, long story short, my Dad has a Very account and through that I made a purchase with my card. I ended up having to get a refund. Problem is, at the time I had not realised the refund would come in the form of a cheque (they did not tell me). I had assumed it would be a direct bank transfer. Otherwise, I would have made sure they made it out to my name.
So, would it be possible to deposit a cheque with my bank details on it but made out to my Dad's name?
If not, what steps can I take? Can I return the cheque to Very? I'm a little lost as to what to do. Thanks.

Assuming the cheque is made out to your Dad then he would have to pay it into an account with his name on. It would be very unusual for a cheque to have the recipients bank details on it.
There used to be a way (many years ago) where you could sign a cheque over to someone else, but I'm not sure if that practice is still allowed.
Can your Dad not pay the cheque into his account and then make a payment of the same amount to your credit card?0 -
It's no longer possible to endorse a cheque to someone else. Either your father will need to pay it into his account or you'll have to contact the payer to ask for a replacement or for your card to be refunded.
I would say that by far the easier would be for your Dad to pay it in but it's up to you.0 -
If the VERY account is in dad's name then the only option is for dad to pay it into his account.
They will not deal with son at all - why would they you are not their customer - indeed they could accuse dad of fraud if he has allowed son to place orders in his name.0 -
Can't your dad cash the cheque and give you the money?0

Being as the son paid on his card I'd have thought that the most logical thing to do would be to refund it. In my experience refunds are always processed via the same route.0 -

Seeing as the Dad had a Very account, the order was likely charged to the Very account, and then a debit card payment taken on the same day, for the same amount, to pay off that amount owing on the account.
Thus, when the order was refunded, it was refunded to the Very account, putting it into a credit balance. As a separate concern, the credit balance has then been refunded - by cheque - to the named account holder.0 -
Oh I see. I'm not familiar with Very and didn't realise that it works on an account basis. Do they allow you to pay by credit card or just debit? If credit cards are okay an unscrupulous person could pay by credit card, return the item and effectively get cash.0

Looks like you can pay via a credit card, I know you can with a Next account.
'My Account
You can make a payment to your Very account by logging into My Account and choosing the “Make a Payment” option. We accept payment by both credit and debit cards. Please allow 24 hours for your payment to show on your Very account. You will receive confirmation of your payment via email shortly after.
I suppose yes you could put the account in credit then wait for the refund...
