PC World refund?

I bought a laptop today for £499.99, the Fujitsu Seimens Li 1818.

In store, this had been marked at £599.99 but online was £100 cheaper, so I ordered it with a store collect and took it home.

I've now realised it's only £399.99 at Comet. D'oh! This is with free home delivery, and to be honest I was wanting a machine to take home today (urgent bit of editing work needs to be done before Monday morning, giving tomorrow to work on it), but in moneysaving style I'm now miffed at being £100 out.

Was just wondering if anyone else had had a similar experience and managed to wrangle the refunded difference. Done a store locate for Comet and they're 5.39 miles from the PC World store I got it at. Did see mention on google that PC world will refund if within 5 miles and it's in stock *in store* not a web offer price... well since Comet is further than that, and it doesn't seem to do a store collect, would it work?

Ho hum. Will bite the bullet if I must, but would appreciate advice. Wish I'd searched harder - usually do but the laptop trouble and narrowing it down to the specs to consider took all day and closing time was drawing near!

Thanks :)

  • Can you not cancel your order with PC World and re-order with Comet. This may be the easiest solution?

Unfortunately I did it as a collect in store and picked it up straight away just before they closed. lol I thought I was being clever with it being £100 cheaper online on PC world to in store, but obviously not!

Have you used the product, because if you haven't you could reject it and ask for your money back. Don't they state in their own terms that you can bring it back unused within 7 days of purchase

Under the distance selling act, you can reject goods within 14 days for any reason. Not sure if this applies if you collect from the store.

Do not buy from comet, they do not have the back up that PC World does. We did that once, would never buy a PC from Comet again. We had no end of trouble and ended up dumping it after salvaging the hard drive. We even took it to PC world to confirm what a local computer store had said and our fears, the motherboard was dead (this was after 3rd "replacement" board from Comet).
Buy computers from a computer store, not a washing machine store.

A little over the top I think...Try telling that to the many thousands of people who buy from these stores every year.I think you were just unlucky. You have the same consumer rights whether you buy from these stores or from dedicated computer shops. The only differance being your local computer shop may go the extra mile but at a price maybe.
  • The PC world website states that collect at store items are non refundable unless within the warranty/statuory rights so dont think you have much chance tbh

At the end of the day you cant moan and if you purchased it without checking 1 of the main competitor sites well tough

You wouldnt have ran to pay the extra £100 if it was vice versa

Considering that if you buy something from electrical stores they are made for the electrical stores and the company who manufactures them, whether it's HP, compaq, kenwood, goodmans or whoever will not touch them if they go wrong. When it takes 6 weeks to replace a motherboard that needs replacing again 2 hrs later, so again 6 weeks away, then when it comes back it comes back with a faulty DVD drive? I don't think so! One place that computer never went to was HP. It never even saw an HP service centre. It even came back with someone elses hard drive.
Considering Comet is where woolies get their electricals from, I wouldn't touch anything from there either.
    You only get burnt once.
Go somewhere that will go the extra mile, even for £100, it will save you money in the long run.
