Child support ending when child goes to university

I have read various posts about when a child leaves further education and goes to university, what I cannot find is what actually happens at the ending point.
My son is now 18, will be 19 at the end of October. He will be starting university this September. My payment is due on the first of every month.
Somebody on here said that CM liability will end at the end of August before they go.
Do I wait to hear from the CSA, can I just cancel my September 1st payment? If I have to pay for September, and maybe beyond, do I get a refund if I do keep paying and nothing was due?
I thought that the CSA would already be aware that the CM could potential be ending but I have just received a new payment schedule into 2017, but do appreciate that my son may fail to make the grades and go back to further education!
Thank you

Who will be supporting your son throughout his degree and during the university holidays?? I wouldn't just cancel it, have a chat to the CSA and your son's mum (if you're on speaking terms).0

That's not the OP's quiery and immediate concern.
As an NRP his liability ends when the Uni starts or 19th birthday whichever is sooner, as his liability is a month in arrears then october contribution would more than likely be the last.
According to other threads, he can contact the CSA when he is sure of the change of circumstance.
After that he can decide if he wishes to continue supporting , this may or may not depend on how he has been treated / respected over the last 19 years or so.0 -
You dont 'chat' to the CSA. the OPs liability ends when CB stops being paid which is in the august after finishing full time education. Anything after that is his choice and nothing at all to do with CSA or his ex.
OP..
CSA wont be aware that the liability ends. They would be hard pushed to find their backsides if you turned out the lights. In August you can either speak to your ex and ask her if she has informed them she is no longer eligible or ask CSA to do a child benefit check. Be aware that a lot of cases end at that time so they will be busy.
My ex told me when she stopped getting CB and it took her over a week to get through to CSA. It took them another 2 weeks to contact me. Dont just stop paying. Once they are told (either by your ex or by doing a CB check) that it should stop they will stop taking any more payments (unless you pay by SO then they will tell you to cancel it). Over the next few weeks they will do a check for arrears etc and refund you anything overpayed in that few weeks.0 -
CSA ends when CB ends:-
if going to Uni its around end Aug/end Sept.
What you may want to consider is voluntary support through Uni as loans for subsistence are based upon parents salary and the minimum allowance will not be enough to 'live' on and get through Uni.
Might want to consider a 3 way top up (student works, you pay and partner pays) for the difference between an agreed annual maintenance cost and the loan available to the student? But need agreement as to what costs are going to be budget for and what you can contribute and what you won't contribute. Bit of a mature 3 way conversation with all parties aware of responsibilities and consequence?

At the end of August ask the CSA to to a CB check when they find CB not to be payable your liability will end.0

Are the loans for Uni based on the salary of both parents, the PWC alone or the household income of the PWC?0

"Are the loans for Uni based on the salary of both parents, the PWC alone or the household income of the PWC?"
Think its household income of PWC (or household income in general) . I know NRP income is not taken into account.0 -
Excellent thank you all for taking the time to reply.
At least dealing with the CSA is nearly at an end and I can support my son directly rather than through my ex0
