Shaw Academy courses

Please does anyone have first hand experience of these? I'm interested in the Online Blogging and Content Marketing Course, currently offered by both Groupon and Wowcher for under £20 against a 'normal' price (does anyone ever pay that?!) of £395.

Many thanks for any help you can give.

Hi, we move threads if we think they’ll get more help elsewhere (please read the forum rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board. If you have any questions about this policy please email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com.

I’ve moved your thread from the ‘I wanna’ board to the ‘Employment, Jobseeking & Training’ board, where it is better suited.

Hi, I'm doing the photography course at the moment (I'm not paying for it, though). The the live webinars work really well, the content is good, the tutor is really nice and personable, and the support works well. You're assigned to a specific person for support throughout the course should you need it.
I wouldn't pay full price for one of their courses, but I would definitely consider paying £20.
I'm finding it really works well for me to be able to listen to someone teaching, rather than reading it :)

I have come across a page on shawacademy website from where if you can register for free digital marketing course. Currently, they are giving free course on 6 courses.
  • I've seen a lot of courses on wowcher, reduced from high prices (nobody would pay) to £20 or more.

My main concern is the certification, I mean, is it worth anything to a potential employer?

As far as I know, CPD simply means 'continuous professional development' which is obligatory for some professions but not a recognised qualification outside of that realm.

I just missed out on a free open university course, but the government stepped in and the cost of the recognised qualification, if I passed) was way out of my price scale.

That said, if people do learn something for £20, then fair play.

There are too many online academies which offer qualifications that mean nothing to employers.

The government ought to provide free education. It will pay for itself and rest assured, many unemployed people would be better served doing educational courses which lead to recognised qualifications.
