Problem with Garage

I've just purchased a 2nd hand car from a dealer; half paid by HP the other by cash and credit card (only while awaiting a payment to come through). Was expecting to pick up vehicle on Friday. Got to garage and the director tells me he mucked up and thought I was collecting it on Saturday (today). He said his guys were working on the car to get it ready but an hour later called to say it wouldn't be completed as he had to order parts which would arrive this morning. The proposed suggestion was, the garage would sort out the work, then he would get the MOT done and deliver it today. This morning I get another call saying not all the parts had arrived but assures me the vehicle will be done Monday morning. Now he knew I was going on a long journey on Monday and I need the vehicle. I have a strong feeling that I wont get the car on Monday before I need to leave to start my 250 mile trip. Can I demand he 'loans' me another vehicle or pay for a hire car or do I have to suck it and see?

Well, you can ask for a loaner car, nothing stops you from doing so, but there is no legal reason why he would do that (there is a business one of course, he wants to keep the sale).
As it is he has breached the contract and you are free to demand your money back in full which I highly recommend as not delivering the car on time is a massive red flags. And there are other, more competent, dealers around.0 -

There's also plenty of dealers who wouldn't bother to correct whatever fault the mechanics have found and would let the OP drive the car away only for it to conk out on their 250 mile drive. As it is he has breached the contract and you are free to demand your money back in full which I highly recommend as
Most car dealers contracts (which the OP would have signed) state that any delivery date given is an estimate.0 -
He did say that I could take the car and bring it back to have the work done later but I said if it wouldn't pass the MOT (even though it doesn't run out til November) I don't want to risk something going wrong on the trip then have him say that I knew the vehicle was faulty!!!0
