Mortgage Redemption with Santander

Hello forum people - interested in hearing from anybody who has paid of their mortgage with Santander.
I have sold my property through a conveyancer and completed he has told me the mortgage has been discharged but no real meaningful details. How long do Santander take to close the account and exit your mortgage and most importantly do they discharge the mortgage directly with Land Registry and ask them to remove the charge through electronic discharge or through a long paper route.
Want to enjoy being mortgage free, but keep on reading stories that say often it can take time to sort the paperwork and the loose ends aren't always tied up!
Any info if known would be great.
Thanks

Don't know about Santander but with Barclays it took about 3 weeks to do everything including taking their name off the land registry..0

In a case like this where there's no other transaction associated with the redemption of the mortgage - e.g. a sale to a new owner - the lender will normally apply to us to discharge it and let you know that they've done that. If Santander aren't going to do that they'll let you know. The time it can take varies, but once we've received the application to discharge that'll normally go through immediately.“Official Company Representative
I am the official company representative of Land Registry. MSE has given permission for me to post in response to queries about the company, so that I can help solve issues. You can see my name on the companies with permission to post list. I am not allowed to tout for business at all. If you believe I am please report it to forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com This does NOT imply any form of approval of my company or its products by MSE"0 -

Sorry should have made myself clearer. I have sold the house to a cash buyer so they won't have a mortgage. So will the lender still notify you directly and leave the registration of the new owner to the buyers conveyancer? My own conveyancer merely said Santander will tell Land Registry directly and new registration will be a separate matter (essentially not our concern).0
