Hi Forum,
I`m partially sighted. I want to book train tickets. I`d rather do so through a real person to ensure that I don`t inadvertantly click on going to the moon by mistake.
Does anyone know of a number for National Rail Enquiries? I can`t find one on their website.
These things aren`t geared to the partially sighted these days and travel agents won`t book tickets unless you`re booking a hotel package at the same time!!!!
Thanks,
lakesman

Putting your thread title into google revealed:National Rail Enquiries: 03457 48 49 50
You do understand that National Rail Enquiries don't sell tickets, don't you?0 -
DOHHHH,
I did say that I was partially sighted, I should have thought of googling that phrase. Thanks. The National Rail Enquiries site I looked at is certainly offering to sell tickets though as this example shows;

They are offering to put you through to (in this case) Virgin Trains who will sell you the actual tickets
They do not sell tickets themselves either online or by phone. They advise you to contact a train company to do the latter0 -

You may prefer to book through the Assisted Travel service for the train company (or at your local station) rather than through the general telesales.
Assisted Travel can organise seat reservations nearer the doors or toilet, as well as someone to meet you and guide you around the stations if you want.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0 -

My mum always used that service. They have someone meet you and take you to your train, and again if you need to change anywhere. They'll even help with your bags! The staff were always really happy to help, so it's worth taking advantage of if you need it.
The webpage below has some information, along with the relevant Assisted Travel phone numbers for each rail company.
http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/stations_destinations/disabled_passengers.aspx#TravelAssistance
If you're travelling by Virgin Trains, the number is 08000 158 123, and for Virgin Trains East Coast it's 03457 225 225.
Hope that helps.0 -
