Banking job with poor credit

I've been offered an interview with Barclays as a Community Banker and I'm aware they do rigorous checks. A relative who worked for them has said they are meticulous.

I have defaults on my accounts. Is it worth going through with the interview?

What are my chances of getting through with these financial issues which have arisen due to lack of money?

The asked whether I had any CCJs or was bankrupt which I said no to which is true

I was optimistic because this is my first interview in many months bu t then I really thought about it :(

I am no expert but if I was in your place and you have been honest when asked about your situation I would still go for it. You never know you could be lucky and get a job out of it, remember nothing ventured nothing gained. Good luck :0)
  • Go for it, I passed a credit check despite having bad credit.

Be honest, in fact, if you have had debt it will make you more effective.

Go for it, maybe the question "CCJs or bankrupt" (maybe CCJ/bankruptcies is all they are concerned about) was the determining factor if you got an interview.

Be honest with your questions and good luck.
  • You will be ok as long as the CV stacks up, with no gaps and with references x it is totally active CCJ's that can be problematic

    Go for the interview

Maybe, maybe not. Some people will see it and think you may end up in that situation again, get desperate, and do something naughty to get yourself out of trouble.

Sure op will be fine though
  • Hi Guys,

I think I may have the same issue as Oriola, perhaps more complicated.

An agency has arranged a first interview with an investment banking firm, as they are looking to fill in the vacancy pretty much soon.

I'm really excited with that role, as I've always wanted to work in banking.
However, I'm wondering if it is worth going for the interview worrying about the below (in case they offer me the role):

    - I've got 1 credit card only since 2013, and it's been recenlty I've managed to reduce the debt from around 36% to 32%
    - However, I've never been late on payments, never had a default and never had an overdraft
    - I have no mortgage as I've been renting for the last 6 years
    - I have a European nationality and have lived in the UK for the last 7 years (1 of which I was a student at Uni)
    - So, I have no UK passport, but have recently applied for a certificate for permanent residency(just after Brexit)
Do you think any of these are likely to cause an issue if I'm successful in my application?
Is it worth carrying out a credit check to see where I stand in advance, or is that likely to leave a trace in my history?
All replies are more than welcome, don't really know where to start from:(
    Thanks, Anny
  • They are interested in two things.

Firstly, like any reputable employer, they have to satisfy themselves that you have the legal right to live and work in the UK.

Secondly, any financial job will want to satisfy their own criteria that you are not somebody who is more likely to be open temptation to commit fraud or be open to blackmail. They will have their own internal formulas for assessing this of which a standard credit check will be just one small part.

All you can do is be totally honest about the situation and see what happens.
