The nicest pitta I have had from a shop is M&S pitta bread. I have no idea if it contains sugar but it seems to have a more authentic flavour than the others.0

Make it yourself and don't put any sugar in.0

Makes 4 dinner plate sized wraps.
250g plain flour
1/2 tsp salt
150ml warm water
1tbsp olive oil
Combine flour and salt in a bowl and make a well in the centre. Add water and oil and mix. Knead lightly for 5 minutes then leave to rest, covered, for 15 mins. Roll out into rounds, use a plate and cut round to make a nice neat circle and dry fry in a hot pan for a minute or two each side. 20 minutes of effort to produce something a hundred times better than any of the crap supermarkets turn out...0 -
A lot of breads even when traditionally produced can contain sugars / honey etc to help activate yeasts . But more of a concern is dough conditioners and improver added to processed breads which contain some strange ingredients ! Real bread shouldn't last too long really !0
