Play in bike brake lever

Hi
Have just got a used bike which hasnt much wear, however there is a bit of play in the front lever. The rear brake engages as soon as you pull the lever but the frist one needs to be pulled all the way back.
Once it engages the bike stops very well though.
They are mechanical disc brakes.
Any ideas how to fix?

Is there cable adjustment on the lever or caliper or can you loosen where the cable attaches and move it slightly. Start by adjusting the cable.
