The referendum result is not legally binding and parliament could just ignore it.

There would be a crisis in parliament if that happened. I can't imagine there would be more MP's on the side of ignoring the vote, I sincerely hope not otherwise there are bigger problems than the EU to be sorting out.

Speaking as someone who has actually done vote counting in local, council and general elections etc, I can assure you that the system for counting, verifying and reporting the count is very tightly controlled and double checked at every level.
When I have been counting, it is quite often very noticeable when one or other candidate has a lead, even before the final winner is announced. I think if the was an issue at any count that numbers were altered/massaged, call it what you will, it would have been noticed!

Do you realise the reason we use pencil on paper is precisely because of the paranoia that votes could be rigged, so every single step is verifiable. Representatives from opposing factions travel with the ballot boxes to the counting centres, pencil can't fade like disappearing ink, there's no mechanical or electrical process obscuring results, etc. It's labour intensive precisely because everyone can understand it and witness democracy in action.

Scotland didn't leave the union because that was the will of the electorate - surprisingly everyone doesn't think alike and some people see the picture very differently.

As for IN/OUT, I've yet to hear a compelling reason to leave the EU, and can see some good trains for staying, so that's how I'll vote. That may not be how you'll vote, but in a system where the whole process is transparent, manual and rugged, both of our votes will be trustworthy and counted.

Whilst the OP might be a little over excited, may I just bring up the recent election in Austria where it has been reported that one province had a voter turn-out of over 140%!?
Generally, if one were to "rig" a vote, the postal ballot would be the easy way to do so... And in the Austrian vote the postal vote came out at over 70% for pro EU guy allowing him to win over all by a few thousand votes....
When all polls and actual ballot voting is reported at 50/50 and the postal vote comes in at something like 73/27 one would be forgiven for thinking that something is amiss....
