  • Keep an eye out for eBay free listings - that way you can list the car for sale and not incur any fees.
As others have said, valet it yourself - perhaps even get the kids involved! I have a 4 year old and she loves washing the car with bubbles, or giving her wipes to dust the interiors, then go at it with the vacuum cleaner :-)
And as others have said, it would leave you with the monetary benefits of no insurance, MOT, tax, etc.

If you are doing the cooking, perhaps you could do your own 'takeaway'? Once a week (if required to be that much), get the ingredients to make your own takeaway. It only costs a few quid for a decent stir fry, or usually less than £5 for homemade pizza... Would save you around £15 a week, and you wouldn't have delivery costs, etc.

As far as food costs, you've already said about not buying brands, which is great. Do you still shop at Tesco, Asda, etc? Consider switching to either Aldi (great food for much cheaper) or Morrisons (because they price match with Aldi now - so cheap!). Make meals plans and stick to them.
Make your own biscuits and snacks as well - you'll get more for your £££ than if you buy them.

I wish you all the best!

I'd hit up the old style money saving board for more stay at home parent tips, and look into stuff you can do from home like surveys. Neither really makes up for the lack of a second salary, but both will help pinch pennies.

Now your wife has managerial experience, has she considered looking for work somewhere more to her liking? She could use it as a stepping stone into a better restaurant or retail work, which she might prefer. After you've managed a fast food place not a lot else is going to phase you!

  • There are quite a few positives to focus on here. You have an asset - the car - which you don't need and which is eating resources. By selling you will have a lump sum and fewer outgoings in the immediate future. Can you valet it yourself?

The leaflets, etc. you distribute - can these be done in an evening or whenever your wife is at home to look after the children?

People with stressful jobs need to unwind. Look for alternatives to take-aways. Those mini bottles of wine (£1 in Home Bargains) always go down well. :)

When do the kids turn 3, and become eligible for free nursery places?

As others have suggested, post your soa so that we can offer further suggestions.
