Why would you need funding if you are in Full Time employment?

Have you actually looked into the job opportunities for newly qualified LGV drivers?

They aren't brilliant as even most Agencies want some experience these days.

There's no funding for people who are in full time employment. Heck, there's no funding for people who aren't in employment.

I read that CILT do some funding, though I suspect it would be for people not in work or youngsters.

There are some firms that will either fund you completely or partly, I think Stobarts do some, but obviously and reasonably tie you in for a couple of years.

If you can afford to get your Class 2 and delay the 1, you may be lucky to get in somewhere that will then fund the Class 1 bit - I realise that the bulk of the costs will be loaded onto getting your Class2, but it's a start and will give you experience.

bigjl is correct when he says that it is difficult to get a start and depending where you are the wages can vary from rubbish to OK and of course depending on if you want to do tramping or see your own bed every night. Having said that, I have two lads on for me, I was there first Class 1 job and they were both under 25, which makes it extra difficult. Their top line earnings are around 38 -39k, which is not too bad if you like seeing the Continent and your natural talents are not office based;).

And every truck driver at some point had no experience and now they are driving.

I can suggest Trucknet - it has a newbie board, where your dilemma has been discussed many times. Also a lot of advice on what type of Training School to look for and well, every other question.

I love my industry, so I am biased. Good luck!

Get a bank loan, it's a good long term investment if you don't mind putting the hours in

you think that graduates end up with what? 27k in debt and can't make 30k a year, it sounds a reasonable return on a relatively small loan.
