Delayrepay after 28 days?

In February my train to London was cancelled, and the next train was a further half hour late, resulting an a 1hr 40 minute total delay.
The problem is, I wasn't aware of DelayRepay until last week.
I still had the ticket and submitted a claim. I got back an apology and acknowledgement that "we clearly let you down on this occasion", but am told that I should have submitted the claim form within 28 days.
Clearly they are correct as per their terms and conditions, but has anyone had any success contesting the time limit?

If you feel the condition is unfair you can complain
Unfair conditions can be contested, and if upheld you will get your refund.
(Otherwise the best to hope for is a goodwill gesture)0 -

Section 42(e)
It's entirely up to their discretion if they're prepared to extend the deadline. No point in asking other people, just ask the train company directly. Worst that can happen is they say no.0
