Day ticket for London

I would appreciate any advice about the best ticket for travelling about in London this Saturday; I have looked at so many different places I have totally confused myself!
I am arriving at Gatwick early morning, going to central London for an afternoon show, and leaving late evening from Heathrow.
Would the Southern day ticket with Travelcard work for me?

Yes that's a good choice, however Southern are cancelling a lot of trains due to "conductor sickness" at the moment, although i think the Gatwick line is bearing up pretty well.

Another, cheaper option is a Thameslink only super off peak travel card at £12.10. Means you have to get a Thameslink train from Gatwick, 2 an hour but once you reach East Croydon the travelcard bit kicks in and you can use any train bus tube etc.

Quick note to say that the Thameslink option worked perfectly; £12.10, got train from Gatwick 15 minutes after landing; train practically empty; made full use of ticket during day, then Tube to Heathrow at night, again very quiet. very pleased with pompey's suggestions.
