My parents have private healthcare and find it worthwhile, but did a lot of investigation to choose which suited them best. I think it paid for mum's hearing aids, for instance. Do you travel and want access to your cover abroad for things travel insurance doesn't cover?

Had the whole of their cash in his care. Lewis Carroll
It's a minefield especially for somebody who is looking to get private healthcare on an individual basis and it's difficult to know where to start. A rough idea of how much you'd need to pay would also be helpful, though obviously it would differ from person to person. Are we talking £50 per month, or hundreds. And, importantly, what are the gotchas.
I had private healthcare for me and my partner arranged via my previous employers benefits package and was paying around £80 a month for it - it would have cost considerably more to keep on when I left so I stopped at that point.
In my particular case it would have been cheaper to have self insured by just putting the £80 in a savings account. In seven years, we used it only once, when my partner needed an out patients eyelid operation.
