Barclays and track it

Hi all!

So I'm starting to wonder if maybe I shouldn't have picked Barclays to apply for my first mortgage, and also learn that when you work 40 hours a week it ain't easy to try and organise stuff like this :rotfl:
I'm a first time buyer and made my application last Friday on 20th May. I had a four hour telephone application, then at the end of the call I was sent into a branch with bank statements and my passport as advised by the application advisor. When I got the the branch (8 miles away) (you need to be ID verified before your mortgage application can be officially submitted) I got there to be told that the bank statements I had with me were not sufficient as they had to be mail posted statements, not ones printed from a branch with the official branch stamp! (Who gets mail statements these days?!) So I had to make another trip the next day with an election polling card to the same branch. A few days later I then got a text message to say that Barclays were going to the property to do a valuation, but I'm in Scotland where we get valuations from the seller prior to applying for a mortgage and I had already uploaded a copy of this which they had already verified over the phone to me as the official valuation that they would use in my valuation, I phoned them and they said the text message had been a mistake.
Then I got a phone call to ask for my passport to be scanned to them electronically, I explained that the week before I had went into the branch and given them my passport, they said that this document was encrypted as soon as I provided it and they needed another one, so I borrowed a scanner and scanned my passport to them. A few days later I got an email reminder to say that the passport request was still outstanding. I phoned them and explained that if already provided my passport, they advised that the email had been another mistake. That was roughly on Wednesday last week which was 25th. Every day I check the 'track it' and there has been no change in status since my application dat 20th May and appears to be stuck at the underwriting stage, at least that's what they keep telling me when I phone them. I have been told 3 times by my application advisor that I will get a final decision 'tomorrow', but tomorrow has not yet came. I phoned on Sat 28ty and was told that the underwriters might be finished with it on 1st June and that I have been given wrong timescales by my application advisor.

My sister has just received her offer for a mortgage with Nationwide and the whole process seemed to have gone a lot more smoothly, Wish I had gone with them!

Does anyone know what it means when there is a green tick at 'Application final outcome' on Barclays track it but no offer process started and phone advisors cannot tell me anything other than it is in a queue with underwriters??

I'm in a bit of a panic because all I want is a yes or no. If it was a no then fair enough but I wish they would be able to do it a bit faster as its been 10 days now and it's not even been through the underwriting process? Is that normal? I really hope it goes through ASAP.

Sorry for then rant!

  • I went with Barclays and had no problems. My 3 hour meeting was on the Monday, had a call on Thursday saying they accepted it but I'd need extra 5% deposit as I was self employed and they wanted more security.

The trackit is quite slow and you'll get texts before the trackit updates. There is a help number to call (probably the one you used) but I found it very hard to hear what they were saying due to terrible line quality and them speaking so fast.

I got told on the following Thursday that it had all gone through and got my full offer in the post on Saturday, 12 days after the meeting.

And when you say "Who gets mail statements these days?!", I never did until 10 months before applying for a mortgage when I knew it'd make thing easier!

    3 hour meetings?

    4 hours on the telephone?

    Are you serious?

My meeting took 2 hours and 50 minutes and he said it was one of the quickest he'd done due to it being a very simple application. I asked at the start how it took 3 hours and he said that was the minimum, most times it takes 4 hours if you're a couple or have kids.

If anyone is interested I can write up a thread on what happened and why it takes so long but yes, 3 hours is about the fastest you'll get it done if you have everything ready and there are no complications.

    That is quite frankly ludicrous.

I fail to see how it can take that long.

  • 4 hours and I have no kids. My partners name is not on the mortgage so that was only MY details!

I wish I had stayed away, im getting bad vibes and thinking I'm going to be rejected. I'm shocked that from them downloading my credit file my rating has dropped from the top end of good to top end of fair.... If they don't accept my application now, who will!

If they reject you, bill them for 4 hours of your life wasted.
