Hi Steve,
I hope you took my comments in the way I intended. It wasn't criticism and you certainly do not owe me any explanation.
If you have insight into how or why it happened then you will hopefully not get caught out by it again or recognise the triggers and get support, etc.
Don't beat yourself up about it. You turned it around before and i'm sure you will again.
All the best, JH0 -
Hello JH,
Just a quick message to say that I hadn't taken your message in the wrong way, in fact I really appreciated your input as you got me thinking which I needed to consider.
Thank you and hope your had a good bank holiday weekend.
Best regards

Glad it was of some help.:)
Yes it was thanks - at least nothing a stroll around in the sunshine couldn't fix! I hope yours was too.

SuperSteve you saved up 45k which shows good work ethic and ability to save. Hopefully once you have the responsibility of monthly mortgage payments you will behave a bit more responsibly. Think of this gambling stunt as a last hurrah before you take out the biggest loan of your life and move on from it.
Even if it means waiting around for a few months just get the mortgage and take the next step in your life.
Dont beat yourself up too much about your gambling problem but also keep in mind that you do have this problem so always be cautious. People get diabetes you have a gambling problem. Every one has issues. Move on and good luck

Hello everyone,
I thought I would just add to my post after my bad mistake on the 28th of May 2016 as I feared I wouldn't get a mortgage after a gamble binge as I feared it would show on my bank statement. However, after all my worry and concerns I can confirm I wasn't even questioned about it from the lender Nationwide which amazed me somewhat.
A couple weeks ago I put my mortgage application through and they based my borrowings just over my last 3 months payslips (not annually, again which surprised me!). They times my salary and commission fully by 4.5 x so I can now borrow £380,000 if I wish, yes! In the end it went through and was quite straight forward.
I was looking at a five bed detached house on the market for 425k and the sellers accepted my offer of 400k as I am a first time buyer with no chain and they need to move sharpish, it all looks great as my application with Nationwide was accepted last week.
Just going through all the legal bits now and my mortgage broker throughout has been excellent, I have always been upfront with the guy and told him also of my mistake the day after my post on here.
A very happy lad.......Horahhhhh!
Best regards,
Steven

That's great. Were you waiting long? Our mortgage app with Nationwide went in on Wednesday and valuation is booked Monday. Really hoping all goes through okay.0

BBC Radio 4 You and Yours did an item about denying big pay outs in the last few days. Basically, if somebody had previously barred himself (or herself), elsewhere, a gambling website doesn't bother checking and lets you gamble. If you do hit it big, and want paying, they suddenly declare you should not have been allowed to gamble, and refuse to pay. Complaints, court action, and somebody got £35k in the end.
So, even if you did get lucky, beware they might use your history against you.
William Hill allows you to set up a daily transfer limit.
Secondly, you can go through PayPal, so all transactions show up as transfer to PayPal on your bank statement.
Thirdly, I have a number of bank accounts, and the one that PayPal takes money from doesn't have too much in it. If some one should hack into my PayPal account, the loss is limited.0 -
Hey Swishy,
Apart from them asking a couple questions on my outgoings from putting the mortgage application in to being accepted from Nationwide was about 10 days.
Sorry for the slow reply, I hope you got accepted too.
Pincher - all that is behind me and poker does not interest me anymore.
Thank you

Thank you for your reply. We actually had an offer this week and received it in the post. 1 week from application to offer! Quite impressed. So we're almost on for exchanging contracts now.0
