You couldn't deduct the expenses from a pension.

Perhaps from the tax paid on a pension?

    No.

There are no expenses to be deducted.

If there are no expenses, what is this thread about?

It's about some guy wondering whether or not he can claim tax relief on the cost of his volunteering holiday in South Africa. To which the answer is 'no'.

Thanks everyone for your comments and help. You don't ask, you don't get. At least I'm clear on the tax point, i.e can't claim but worth asking anyway. I'm still going to do it as it's a worthwhile cause and to be up and close to cheetahs and penguins is my ultimate dream!

I cannot think of any way to claim tax relief against tax paid on a pension other than through a trading loss and, even then it must be from a business from which there is some expectation of a profit. . (I am happy to be corrected!) The op is not trading. The answer, therefore, is No.

Is a laundry allowance in respect of washing uniform a possibility?
