Weird statute barred situation

I had a credit card in 2009 which went in to default very quickly, but in October 2010, Natwest took a chunk of my student loan from my savings account to cover it, which they then returned all but about £45 of, when I explained I needed it to pay rent.
Does Natwest actively taking money without my consent count as me making a payment for the purposes of Statute Barring?
