pre job health check

Hi just a quick question. A family member has just been offered a job but as part of the requirements (alongside the usual reference checks etc) is a health check.
This family member is on medication for anxiety and tablets to control mental tendencies...psychosis etc. Whilst his condition is stable and is on the right medication to live a normal life I'm assuming this is going to be revealed in the health check.
On the outside you would never know and he is articulate and professional etc but we're all concerned that this job offer will evaporate once they realise he is on medication.
The job role is office based so it is hardly an army recruitment situation. Maybe we are wrong to be concerned but he has overcome a lot due to his illness and this would be such a setback if they remove the job offer based on the health check and not on his capabilities to do the job role.
What are people's thoughts on this?

Hi,
If his situation is very stable, i do not think it will kill his chances in the job. Although some organizations could take it serious, some could not. I guess he should talk to a medical psychologist, so that they will evaluate the situation with regards to its effect on job performance. After that, he could do the pre-job health check. During the period, he should also talk to the Doctor that did the health check about the situation, and if the Doctor expresses doubt, then he should also present the report from the medical psychologist to the Doctor and the organization as well to further convince them.
Cheers.0 -
Is it an actual health check with a doctor or just on paper? When I got my job I had to have a health check, but it was just a questionnaire which I filled in, then someone rang me and asked a few questions about something I had ticked and that was it.0

A health check may determine his capability of doing the job so its fair and valid to do.Southernman wrote: »Hi just a quick question. A family member has just been offered a job but as part of the requirements (alongside the usual reference checks etc) is a health check.

However, they cannot refuse a job if they can make reasonable adjustments as he may be covered by the equality act 2010...proving this was the reason and having the resolve to fight it is a different thing.
Try not to worry, 99% of these health checks go without a hitch.Don't trust a forum for advice. Get proper paid advice. Any advice given should always be checked0 -
