Which treadmill?

Hi,
I've been really lazy recently and packed on the lbs. I see to run regularly (even did a few half marathons) but then split with ex and didn't have any one to have kids so stopped running. I'm wanting to get back in to it but I'm struggling again with kids. I've tried taking them with me on a bike but it just doesn't work so I thought a treadmill would help. The problems are:
1, I've never ran on a treadmill (usually path running) but from what I understand a motor one is better
2, I've no where really to keep one other than in my living room (for now anyway)
3, I've no idea what I 'need' - they all seem to come with a million and one gadgets.
So - any recommendations?!

Hello. I was/am in the same predicament in regard fitness. No time or opportunity to go to the gym. I did have a treadmill...a motorised one that could incline etc. It was excellent but the space they can take up is horrendous...even when folded they are not exactly unobtrusive. But it that doesn't bother you there's no issue. I had mine from ebay but cannot remember the maker. Try places like Sweatband.com. They have a showroom (in London sadly for those of us miles away) but have a large range of fitness machines. I'm considering a cross trainer from them as they have a sale on right now.0

How about a rowing machine? takes up less space and has fewer parts to go wrong.0

Thanks for the replies.
TBH i dont think i would enjoy using the rowing machine. I'm a runner / horse rider0 -
I did have one and loved it BUT I got fed up of the space it took up and got rid. You're much better running outside, you will have to find a way!0

Hi! :j
Regarding the fact that what the best path running or motor - of cors it is motor... In time "path running" you will have different speed of movement, that because you have a different pulse. When you want to lose weight you need to keep the heart rate at 120-140 beats per minute. This you can be achieved only on treadmill if a uniform walking on
"They all seem to come with a million and one gadzhets" Yes there is a lot of them. But the main thing that need to be are rising of the track and the speed. The other functions is not really important.0 -
Take a look at the X Lite 2 models. I have heard good things about them. They also fold away!0

Seriously?!! People are still spouting this rubbish?? :rotfl::rotfl:
In terms of treadmill I have no idea on specific models but the bigger motors will run smoother, and availability of parts for fixing it would be two main things I would consider. Modes and gadgets are pointless. As long as it runs smoothly and has an element of gradient adjustment you don't really need anything else. Oh and spend as much as you can afford!! Getting a cheap one is counterproductive unless you want a pretty place to hang your clothesThose who risk nothing, Do nothing, achieve nothing, become nothingMFW #63 £0/£5000 -
I'd vouch for a rower. Six years ago we bought a water rower - not cheap but worth every penny. My entire family use it, and it gives all over muscle toning and a good cardio workout. It sits upright in the smallest area of our dining room, and gets pulled down when needed. I use it on inclement days when I can't get out on my bike, but my wife uses it 5 days a week for 45minutes at a time. My two girls 14 &16 have started to use it too along with cycling.
Rowers and treadmills do need to be decent quality a) to last, and b) to make you want to use them.Make everything as simple as possible, but not simpler.0 -
I also find that treadmills are easier on the knees. Running on the road can take its toll after 20 or 30 minutes, but on a treadmill it doesn't seem so bad.0

Depends on the individual. I'm 19 stone+ and regularly run 10k on the roads with no problems. Proper running shoes help.0
