NHS Jobs System

Hi,

Does anyone know how the NHS online jobs system works ?

I applied online for a job & the closing date was nearly two weeks ago but I've heard nothing.
My understanding that they review the applications & then tick a box to shortlist or another to say Thankyou but No.
I presumed that this would happen at the same time.
I keep thinking that if I've heard nothing they haven't finished shortlisting yet but two weeks seems a long time to short list so have they shortlisted but just not let the rest of us know ?

Can anyone she'd any light on how the system works ?

Thanks

Jen

You get an email either way.

But you need to check your spam box

Not in my experience (NHS employee since June 2015). I've only ever received an email if I was sent an invite to interview. Some times they do mark on your NHS jobs account if you have been unsuccessful.

OP, I can't speak for your Trust, but I know that my Trust is notorious for giving you less than a week's notice for an interview. If you have been unsuccessful, then don't be too disheartened it is extremely competitive to get into the NHS, it took me years to get in. What I will advise though, is that I suspect that the NHS uses a piece of software to scan applications for keywords that match their job specification.

I agree with the above poster. You don't get a 'no thanks' email if unsuccessful. Usually it says somewhere that if you haven't heard in so many weeks then assume you're unsuccessful. Often, in my experience, this is four weeks, and they are sometimes extremely sloooow. I used to just keep looking and apply for anything else I liked.

If you applied for my post which closed over 2 weeks ago you can expect to hear tomorrow if you've got an interview. We often get 50+ applicants, and shortlisting can take some time.

Don't give up hope just yet.

    Taken from nhs jobsite ...
We regret that we are unable to advise candidates if they have not been shortlisted. If you have not heard from us within three weeks of the closing date please assume that you have been unsuccessful on this occasion
  • it's true that they take ages to shortlist, and often won't bother to tell you if you are unsuccessful. After 2-3 months they may mark your application as unsuccessful. I was shortlisted for a position after 3 weeks, as well.

I worked for the NHS several years ago and was asked to help shortlist - we'd had 252 applications for what was originally 2 band four jobs and became three as we had generic job descriptions and another team jumped on the band wagon. Because all the shortlisting had to be done and agreed by the same people it an sometimes take an age. Don't be too disheartened. The last job I got short listed for took 5 to 6 weeks. I know my current role at a local authority rather than NHS closed for applications at the end of September - and I was invited for interview December. They were so short staffed they couldn't process the applications.
