Hi,
Makes no difference either way.
Online remedy is easier, and more anonymous (in that you don't need to speak to anyone).
It's down to personal choice really, whichever your most comfortable with.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. I am surprised that the FCA doesn't close the online remedy down. I suspect it is very high on their list of things to do.
Giving someone debt advice without ever speaking to them is at the very least fraught with danger, at worst potentially catastrophic for the individual concerned.
Not a dig at SC, more that the FCA is not keen on any avenue of advice, free or otherwise, that may lead to consumer detriment.0 -

Thank you that has given me some food for thought.0 -

Would anybody recommend any other way of dealing with debt?
Well that's quite a far reaching question.
There are three debt remedies laid down in statute by parliament in England and Wales, they are :
(1) Bancrupcy
(2) Individual Volunterry Arrangement
And
(3) Debt relief order
The fourth option is an informal debt management plan.
It depends on your own personal circumstances, and how much debt you have, which option is right for you.
For example if you are in a lot of debt, and have no assets, and very little income, you should concider Bankrupcy.
If your not a homeowner, your debt is less than 20k, and you have less than £50 left after all bills are paid, a debt relief order may be for you.
Or, if you have a house to protect, and a lot of debt, an IVA may be suitable, you really need to speak to someone about your options.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. I agree with this. My council has this link under 'debt advice' on their website
http://www.debtsupporttrust.org.uk/
they have an online 'debt test' - gives completely misleading and useless advice. Feel free to give it a go.0
