If you cancel an annual season ticket after six months, how is the refund calculated?. Do they use the monthly season ticket rate? or treat it as if you had done x number of single journeys?

I've seen that but wasn't sure whether the "ticket or tickets required for the period for which you have actually used" means monthly season tickets or individual one-way tickets for each journey. Also, are the rules the same for all TOCs?0 -
You'll get a pro rata refund of what you haven't used.
If you got a 5% discount it's unlikely you'll get that back.
So if you were 6 months in expect about a 40% refund I would fathom
You could always phone them and ask!!Hello There. :beer:0 -

A 'monthly' ticket can be bought for any period from one month to one year.
On the date of surrender, they work out the cost of a season ticket at monthly rates for the period you have had the yearly ticket, subtract that price from the price you paid for the yearly ticket, to arrive at the refund amount.
I believe they then deduct a £10 admin fee from the refund amount.
All train companies use the same calculation.
As an aside, if you are moving and will need a season ticket for your new commute, it is usually more cost effective to change your existing season ticket rather than cancelling one and buying a new one. You'll get a pro rata refund of what you haven't used.
Otherwise everyone wanting a one month ticket would buy a yearly ticket and cancel it after the one month.0 -

A pro rata refund? I don't think so.
