I was clearing out the kitchen at the weekend (because I am having a NEW one fitted next week!!!!!!) and in the furthestmost darkest recess I found a plastic microwave rice steamer - a basin like bowl with another bowl inside it with like mesh in the bottom and a lid. Lord knows when I bought that but I seem to recall it was pretty useful but I can't find the instructions.
Has anyone got one and could post how to use it for rice? Does anyone use theirs for anythign else? If nothing else it will be a decent-sized basin!
TIA

Put uncooked rice into inner basket place basket into bowl and add enough boiled water to cover rice. put in microwave on high for 12 or so minutes and hey presto - I cannot live without my rice cooker - well having to at present cos last one (10 yr gaurantee) cracked!! If yuo want your rice fluffier take basket out of bowl empty bowl and invert rice into bowl, replace lid and further microwave for two minutes. I add all sorts to rice too - coconut, spices etc. Happy cooking!!stellagypsy wrote: »I was clearing out the kitchen at the weekend (because I am having a NEW one fitted next week!!!!!!) and in the furthestmost darkest recess I found a plastic microwave rice steamer - a basin like bowl with another bowl inside it with like mesh in the bottom and a lid. I also use one of these for cooking rice. I put basmati rice in the basket, rinse under cold running water for about a minute, place back into the plastic bowl, cover with boiling water, lid on and then cook for 8 mins on high. Perfect every time.
It is also really useful for steaming/microwaving veggies.0 -
Hiya
I've had mine for years, couldn't live without it. Don't just use it for rice, I use the bowl for anything that needs cooking in the m/wave, with the lid on - for packet pasta mixes, frozen veggies, defrosting soup, etc. I use the lid every time I need to put something in there that I'd usually cover with m/wave clingfilm, the lid has vents in so its works beautifully. I also use the drainer as my main colander as it's smaller than my big metal one and takes less washing/space in the drainer.0
