Nah, we're on the continental shelf, Joe, so not even continental drift will alter our geological Europeanness.Free the dunston one next time too.0 -

Depends on the timeframe.
Around 300 million years ago much of Scotland and most of Ireland was part of North America, so there was a proper split in the uk. At that time the Iapetus ocean existed as a precursor to the Atlantic, so the situation would be very different, we'd have a nito alliance preventing aggression against member countries presumably, but wouldn't have to worry about dinosaurs for another 150 million years.0 -
Unfortunately it looks like everyone is correct.
People who stage argument rather than offer help really are the most prevalent in forums.
To quote Geological terminology as part of a plea for help over pension funds, or to delight in casting aspersions on people's political affiliation and newspaper reading habits, really shows what a pathetic bunch of wasters proliferate these sites.
To even offer me advice on my rights to vote in a referendum in a country where I do not live, well, what a frighteningly misguided individual.
All I asked for was some advice as to whether there is any way to release funds if you move abroad. To accuse me of being a daily mail reading bigot because I choose a simpler way of life? I must be a facist to want the best education for my children?
Let's hope others take heed of what seems to be a majority of useless small minded idiots simply using forums to verbally spa with strangers asking for help, in order to make their own tiny members look bigger in print.0 -
all you did wasn't ask for advice. you also started with some sweeping statements about "the seemingly doomed and corrupt uk pension markets" and about having to live to 160 (i don't even know what you meant by the latter). people responded to the statements you made.
let's start again. why do you even want to "release" this pension? what would you do with the money if it were in your bank account right now? because, if you'd invest it in some way, the chances are that you could invest it in the same, or a very similar, way while it's still inside the pension. and you will then get full access to the pension when you are about 55 or 57.
pensions have historically been very opaque and confusing products. but they are much improved, and you have an extremely wide range of investment options available now (though this might require first transferring to a different provider, if your current pension has limited options).
note: i'm assuming that your pension is "defined contribution". if it's actually "defined benefit" (e.g. a final salary scheme), then the answer would be a bit different.0 -

You quite clearly didn't "only" ask about releasing money early. The DM comments were made by posters regards your other, utterly irrelevant or inexplicable comments.
As for releasing money early*, there are many reasons why this is (a) usually not possible and (b) a bad idea if it is and (c) there are generally better ways to accomplish the end rather than the means.
You clearly dont seem to be open about learning about those though.
*Out of interest, since you say you can do sums, just how did you get to 160 years?0 -
If I can be so bold, your opening question, instead of being interspersed with hyperbole, inaccuracies (you did not emigrate from the EU) and prejudice would have been something along these lines ...
Well, if you want to be picky, OP stated that they emigrated 'to' the EU
