Blue Light Card

  • Can anyone advise whether it’s possible to use two different discounts via the blue light card scheme? Is this Possible: buy vouchers (eg Halfords) at a discount of 7% ie pay £93 for £100 worth of vouchers. Then go into the store to get the 10% discount they  offer NHS Staff and buy £111 of goods using the £100 gift voucher.
So £111 of goods costs me £93 and saves me £18 ie 16%

Can I use the gift card in that way or does it show that I already had a discount.
Would it still apply if two separate blue card users tried to stack the discounts?
If the gift card was a gift for a non nhs/ blue light worker would they be able to access in store offers?

Many thanks to anyone can advise and if I find out I’ll update the thread in case it’s helpful to anyone else.
Yes I have done this a few times, bought vouchers using my employers discount schemes, then gone onto the BLC link and used the code.

Does anyone know where you can get a promotional discount as there's a place to add one in the application?
  • Hi!
Popping this here in case it helps anyone!  A friend mentioned that since 2019 carers are eligible for the Bluelight Card.  It's £5 and has already paid for itself the first time I used it. We got £5-6 off our KFC family order and I used it when ordering flowers for my mum which saved me £15.

    Well worth it :)

I've never had a problems using this. Morrisons give 10% off, Whitbread give 25% off food. Hotpoint give 10% off. There are lots of bargains to be had

Amazing to not see on here the many, many unhappy people that have been commenting for weeks on the BLC facebook page. I applied for the card, using the same form of ID as my colleagues. Frustratingly some of us were successful yet some declined over our ID. Those declined have not had their £4.99 refunded and for some like myself, it’s been weeks and multiple emails. They are very quick to take your £4.99 before your application’s been approved, yet there seems to be no replies to my emails asking when i’ll be refunded. Their Facebook page is full of frustrated key workers failing to get support, refunds or help - lots have given up and just want their refund, yet none seem to appear. Any ideas who I can escalate this to? Yes they’re a small team but they’re keeping an awful lot of money without lawfully refunding and that’s not on
I was initially rejected as my payslip does not show the NHS logo. I’m employed by a GP federation that is part of a CCG. I raised a ticket on the app and heard nothing. Then I DM’d on Twitter with a link to show it was part of the NHS, Twitter sorted it within days.

Given that I don’t have an ID card, having the blue light card will be hopefully be useful to easily prove I am entitled to the discount.

Retirees be aware that on the website the blue light card is not available to retired nurses or doctors or other retired health service staff
Only retired nhs staff who can apply are members of ambulance service.
Other retired public sector workers who can apply are armed forces, police, fire brigade.
That's a gross piece of discrimination against retired doctors and nurses. I've taken it up with them, but they won't budge.
Difficult to see why a retired nurse is so different from a retired ambulance worker, soldier, police officer or fireman/woman.

What's their problem with doctors and nurses?

Not impressed and Blue Light dont seem to be bothered in the slightest.

Applied for BLC after hearing positive comments, was planning a number of holidays so on seeing Jet2holidays are offering members the chance to save £25 per booking at Jet2holidays decided to join up.

Bought the first holiday for £2500 but the discount code failed to work, so went through the bluelight link and again the code failed to work.

    Contacted Blue light

    After 6 days they responded

First they said my dates were outside the deal.

    I proved they were not.

After another 9 days they said my flight was outside the offer

    I proved they were not.

After another 7 days they said it was the accomodation that I booked that was the problem.

I proved it was not the case.

They then said I would have been given the discount if I rang Jet2 direct and asked for the discount to be applied by there call centre.

Told them too late I have booked, asked can you get discount applied for me.

They said they cant and i would have to take the case to Jet 2.

Putting it down to experience, and in my opinion jet2 deserve all my money after the 18 months they have had, and the excellent service they have provided.

Blue Light Cards Customer services...... hugely disapointing and pathetic in their attempts to evade the discount, I told them I wasnt bothered any more, its ony £25, so I specifically asked have you sorted the issue for future users, they declined to answer.

  • So many codes don't work. Look Fantastic doesn't work! Jo Malone excludes Christmas items!

Never had any issues with codes personally and i've used various retailers. May be worth checking T&C's as some codes may not be valid against sales item and things like that. And its no surprise they're excluding christmas items.. why discount them when they know people are about to pay full price anyway?  ;)

I also raised this issue with BLC in July this year as I have recently retired from the NHS and my card was due to expire end August 2020. They said they would review my comments, similar to Doc N on discrimination. And  this month, GOOD NEWS, retired NHS staff can now apply for a BLC card ! I have successfully ! You need to upload a P60 from HMRC showing you are in receipt of a NHS pension. My card has appeared on the app and waiting for the physical BLC in the post - already made savings online! I
